Women's Tennis Wins Seven Matches at MSU

LANSING, Mich. - The Boilermakers opened action at the MSU Invite on Friday with four Purdue women in action. The ladies had an excellent opening day going 5-1 in singles and 2-0 doubles.

Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum went 2-0 in Flight A of singles on the opening day. She knocked off Daniela Patton of Xavier in the opening round in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Then, she rallied to beat Hannah Berner of Wisconsin. Bernard-Feigenbaum dropped the first set, 6-3. In the second, the freshman got back on track and won, 6-2. In the third and final set, the rookie was dominant and won, 6-1. Bernard-Feigenbaum is now 4-0 in singles and will be in the semifinals on Saturday against the winner of Catherine Parenteau of Michigan State and Prang Pantusart of Akron.

Imogen Golder had an excellent opening day as well. The senior was 2-0 in singles and dropped only five games on the day. In her opening match, Golder knocked off Andrea Wolf of Xavier, 6-4, 6-0. In her second round match, the senior defeated Katarina Lingl of Michigan State, 6-0, 6-1. She advances to the semifinals and will face the winner of Lauren Chyphya of Wisconsin and Courtney Wild of Ball State.

Claudia Escribens also was a singles victor on Friday. Escribens was nearly perfect against Claire McNulty of Dayton as she won, 6-1, 6-0. Escribens will take on Bethany Moore of Ball State on Saturday. Moore beat Megan Morris of Xavier, 6-2, 6-1.

The Boilermaker doubles teams were equally as impressive. Bernard-Feigenbaum and Escribens capped off an outstanding day for the freshmen. The rookie duo beat a Miami-Ohio pair, 8-0. The freshmen take on a Xavier tandem on Saturday. Gisella Pere and Golder also picked up a doubles win. The seniors beat a Toledo tandem, 8-6. Pere and Golder will face a Marquette team on Saturday.
