Women's Golf Tied For Eighth At LSU Tiger Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 27th-ranked Purdue women's golf team is tied for eighth after firing a 311 in the opening round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The Boilermakers were led by Laura Gonzalez-Escallon's 74 and are tied with Kentucky, 16 strokes from the first-round leader and host team, No. 7 LSU (295).

Gonzalez-Escallon is tied for 11th place with her two-over par effort. Junior Paula Reto recorded a 78 and is tied for 35th, while Kishi Sinha shot a 79 to tie for 42nd place.

Freshman Kendall Dusenberry carded an 80 and is tied for 53rd while freshman Vicky Scherer is tied for 72nd after recording an opening-round 87. Aurora Kan was playing as an individual and also is tied for 72nd with a score of 87.

Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (70) holds the individual lead by one stroke over LSU's Madelene Sagstrom (71). Those two are the only golfers to record rounds below par in the rain-delayed opening round of the tournament. The Tiger Classic was scheduled to begin with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m., but due to the weather was delayed to a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 17 N.C. State, No. 22 Tennessee, No. 23 Virginia, College of Charleston, Kentucky, Louisville, UNC-Wilmington, Notre Dame, TCU and Louisiana-Monroe.

No. 22 Tennessee is in second place with a 298, No. 9 North Carolina is third with a 301, while No. 8 Vanderbilt is in fourth with a 302 and No. 23 Virginia is fifth after recording a 304.

The tournament is being held at LSU's University Club, which is set up as a par-72, 6,305-yard venue for the tournament.
