DES MOINES, Iowa - The Purdue women's track and field team had a pair of solid performances at the first day of competition at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, hosted by Drake University at Drake Stadium on Wednesday. Juniors Terri Anderson and Leah Eber were both unable to advance to finals, but turned in good efforts on the day.

Anderson finished 22nd in the women's discus, marking 47.04 meters (154-04) in her first career NCAA appearance. Anderson fouled both her first and third attempt in the preliminary round, tossing her only fair attempt on the second throw for her overall finish. It took a throw of 52.90 meters (173-06) to advance to the finals, while Northwestern State senior Trecey Rew took home the event title with a toss of 58.64 meters (192-04), winning the championship on her final throw.

Eber captured 19th place in the women's long jump, marking 6.13 meters (20-01.50) in the preliminary rounds. Eber opened with a foul, and followed with an opening jump of 5.95 meters (19-06.25). Eber improved to her top mark on her third and final jump of the prelims, but was unable to advance to the finals, which required a leap of 6.37 meters (20-10.75). Southern Mississippi junior Tori Bowie earned the individual crown, tying for the day's best mark of 6.64 meters (21-09.50) with Ti'Anca Mock of Oklahoma, but securing the win on her second-bets jump of the competition.

The Boilermakers continue competition tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. (CT) as senior Emily Breslin chases All-America honors in the women's high jump.
