Bryan, Texas - The fourth-ranked and defending national champion Purdue women's golf team trails UCLA by three strokes at the 2011 NCAA Championships and has moved into second place with a two-round score of 587.

The Boilermakers and the Bruins both recorded seven-over par 295s on Thursday at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. Purdue was led once again by senior Numa Gulyanamitta who carded a 70 and is in second place individually at three-under par, three strokes behind LSU's Austin Ernst who fired a six-under par 66 on day two.

"We fought hard today and you have to say that we're in a good position," head coach Devon Brouse said. "But let's be realistic, somebody will take charge of the tournament tomorrow. Some team will go out and take charge and then it will probably be an interesting last day as well. I think we can play better than we played today, but I'm sure a lot of coaches here feel that way."

Gulyanamitta started off her round with two bogeys, but recorded only pars and birdies the rest of the way to finish two-under par (71-70=141).

"Numa is very determined," Brouse said. "After she bogeyed the first two holes today, I told (assistant coach) Caroline (Haase) that Numa is not going to stay at two over but that she's going to fight back and get better from there. And that's exactly what she did."

Laura Gonzalez-Escallon also had a solid round on day two, with a one-under par 71. She has moved into a tie for 10th with a score of 145 (74-71, +1). The sophomore from Belgium recorded birdies on No. 3, 11 and 17 with bogeys on No. 5 and 13.

Senior Maude-Aimee LeBlanc carded a 76 after opening with a 74 and is four-over par for the tournament, tied for 43rd with a total of 150.

Sophomore Paula Reto turned in the Boilermakers' fourth counting score of the day with a 78. She is tied for 49th with a two-round total of 151 (73-78, +7). Thea Hoffmeister had a tough round with an 81 and is tied for 85th (74-81=155).

No. 7 LSU (292-296=588) is in third place, just one stroke behind Purdue and host Texas A&M (295-294=589) is in fourth after scoring a 294 on Thursday.
