Round Two Results // Round Three Tee Times
COLUMBUS, Ind. - The seventh-ranked Purdue women's golf team battled windy conditions on Friday afternoon and finished with a 320 for a two-round total of 623 (303-320) at the 2010 NCAA Central Regional at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. The Boilermakers are in fifth place with one round to play and need a top-eight finish to advance to their 11th consecutive NCAA Championships.
No. 4 Southern California moved into the lead on Friday after turning in the best team score of the day with a 304 and have a four-stroke lead with a two-round total of 603. Top-seed Arizona State is in second place with a team total of 607 after carding a 310 on Friday, No. 28 Oklahoma State is in third at 613 (305-308) and Oregon is fourth at 621 (305-316).
It was a rough day for all the teams, including Purdue who teed off from hole No. 10 beginning at 1:25 p.m. Winds gusted between 20 and 30 miles per hour in the afternoon and the average score for all golfers was 81.9 on Friday.
The Boilermakers were led by freshman Laura Gonzalez-Escallon's 79. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native is tied for 34th with a total score of 157 (78-79). Junior Thea Hoffmeister had the individual lead after the first round, but fired an 81 on Friday and is tied for ninth with a score of 151 (70-81).
Numa Gulyanamitta also recorded an 81 in the second round and with a score of 158 is in an 11-way tie for 39th along with teammate Maude-Aimee LeBlanc who carded an 80 today. Freshman Paula Reto turned in an 80 in round two and is tied for 56th with a score of 160.
Southern California's Lizette Salas and Oklahoma State's Victoria Park are tied for first with scores of 146. Salas was the only golfer in the red on Friday with a one-under par 71. Park carded a 74 after opening with an even-par 72.
Indiana University is the host institution for the 2010 Central Regional at Otter Creek Golf Course. The north and west nines are being utilized for the tournament and the course is set up as a par-72, 6,416-yard venue.
The Boilermakers will tee off beginning at 8 a.m. ET from hole No. 10 on Saturday for the final round of regional action. The top eight teams and the top two individuals whose teams do not make the cut will advance from each regional to the NCAA Championships. The championships finals will be held May 18 to 21 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
