Women's Golf In Third After One Round

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The ninth-ranked Purdue women's golf team is in third place behind Arizona State and Southern California after firing a 287 in the opening round of the PING/ASU Invitational on Friday.

The Boilermakers were led by freshman Laura Gonzalez-Escallon and junior Maude-Aimee LeBlanc who are tied for 11th after each firing a one-under par 71 in the first round in Tempe, Ariz. Junior Numa Gulyanamitta is just one stroke behind and tied for 24th by carding a 72 on Friday.

Paula Reto recorded a one-over par 72 and is tied for 30th while junior Thea Hoffmeister scored a 74 and is tied for 34th.

The Boilermakers trail host Arizona State by eight strokes. The Sun Devils lead the field after recording a team total of 279. Southern California holds a six-stroke lead over Purdue after totaling 281 as a team on Friday.

Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda and Tulsa's Kristina Merkle are tied for first place after each recording a four-under par 68.
