The Purdue women's tennis team won eight matches in Ft. Myers Fla., on Sunday during the second day of the Hilton Garden Inn Eagle Invite.
Sophomore Anna Dushkina advanced to the final of the No. 4 singles draw by rolling through Akron's Prang Pantusart 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Imogen Golder continued the unbeaten start to her collegiate career and moved into the No. 5 singles final with her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lauren Holton from North Florida. Sophomore Remi Martin will play for the No. 7 singles draw title after destroying Bibiana Almeida from Florida Gulf Coast 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Kay Kay Magi defeated Akron's Jeremie Benjamin 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (6) to earn a spot in the No. 6 singles draw consolation final. Junior Bhavani Tirumurti was sent to the third-place match in the No. 3 singles draw when the Jakarta, Indonesia, native fell to Stephanie Roy from Arkansas 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6).
Senior Michelle Sammons advanced to the consolation final in the No. 1 singles draw by defeating Missouri's Mallory Weber 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (6). Sophomore Jennifer Rabot also will play in the consolation final of her bracket after an injury forced her opponent out of Sunday's match in the No. 2 singles draw.
Martin and Dushkina advanced to the championship match of the No. 2 doubles draw by outlasting Ecaterina Vasenina and Allyn Mueller from South Florida 9-7. Sammons and Rabot were defeated by South Florida's Irene Rehberger and Melissa Koning, the eight-ranked doubles team in the NCAA, 8-4 and are set to play for third place in the No. 1 doubles draw Monday. Tirumurti and Golder put together an impressive 8-1 demolition of Kathline Durden and Alexis Brown from Florida A&M to move into the consolation final of the No. 3 doubles bracket.
The Hilton Garden Inn Eagle Invite concludes Monday. Action begins at 8 a.m. ET from the FGCU Tennis Complex.
