WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule Sunday by completing the Purdue Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
"Overall, I was pleased with the way the team competed this weekend," head coach Laura Glitz said. "Our doubles play was especially good. We were aggressive, focused and hustled for balls, which is what we have been focusing on in practice, so it was great to see the team implement this in match play. Our singles play got better as the weekend progressed, and I thought we ended our fall season on a very positive note."
Sophomores Jennifer Rabot and Anna Dushkina capped off their fall seasons with victories. Rabot defeated Marquette's Paola Calderon 6-2, 6-0, and Dushkina earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Maria Prishylak from Penn State.
Junior Bhavani Tirumurti suffered her first loss of the tournament when Amy Simidan from Penn State grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Sophomore Kay Kay Magi fell to Marquette's Gillian Hush 6-2, 6-4, and fellow sophomore Remi Martin saw Penn State's Kristen Roth take a 6-3, 6-1 decision.
The Boilermakers put together a 13-8 cumulative singles record and were 7-2 in doubles throughout the three-day tournament. Magi ended the fall with a team-leading eight singles wins, while Rabot and senior Michelle Sammons led the team with seven doubles victories.
Purdue returns to action at the Johan Kriek Classic, which is scheduled for Jan. 16-18 in Fort Myers, Fla.
