Final Stats

AUBURN, Ala. - The Boilermaker softball team scored six runs in the final two innings to wrap up a 6-4 come-from-behind win over Austin Peay Saturday night.

Purdue scored its six runs on eight hits and two errors, while allowing the Lady Govs four runs on four hits and one miscues. Junior Liane Horiuchi went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while junior Ashley Barr was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Sophomore Suzie Rzegocki (4-2) earned the victory for Purdue after throwing five scoreless innings of relief. Ashley Bolda was saddled with the loss for APSU, giving up four runs in the final inning and two thirds.

Austin Peay jumped on the scoreboard early, putting up three runs in the opening stanza. A bases loaded walk, a fielder's choice and a bunt single drove in the runs in the inning, which also featured two Boilermaker defensive miscues.

Purdue put two runners in scoring position in the second, but could not score. Sophomore Jenna Alexander was hit by a pitch to start the inning, before being sacrificed over to second. Junior Ashley Barr earned a free pass, then both runners advanced a base on a ground ball to second base. Another ground out kept Purdue thwarted a scoring effort.

Sophomore Suzie Rzegocki took over in the circle after the first two batters of the third were hit by a pitch. After allowing a bunt single, Rzegocki forced two fielder's choice plays at the plate. A walk scored one run, but the Boilermakers bounced back with a ground out to escape the inning without further damage.

A trio of singles loaded the bases for Purdue with one out in the fourth, but the Boilermakers could not push a run across. Sophomore Beth Cinadr started the rally with a single to right. Sophomore Shelby Krammer hit a one out single to the shortstop, then Barr singled through the right side. A fielder's choice play at the plate and a ground ball to second base kept the shutout in tact.

A three-base error and a single gave the Boilermakers two runs in the fifth. Junior Liane Horiuchi got things started with a single through the left side. Senior Candace Curtis tripled through the left side, plating Horiuchi. Cinadr then lasered a single into right field to bring Curtis home. A double play wrapped up the inning.

The Boilermakers racked up four runs on three hits in the sixth to take the lead. Purdue loaded the bases on an error and two singles to start the rally. Krammer reached on a fielding error by the center fielder. Barr then laid down a bunt single and freshman Molly Garst singled to short to fill the bases. A fielder's choice out at the plate accounted for the inning's first out. A ground ball to the shortstop plated a run. Horiuchi then launched a three-run bomb over the center field wall to make it 6-4 Purdue.

The Lady Govs went down in order in the seventh on two fly balls and a strikeout to clinch the Boilermaker win.

Purdue (5-4) returns to action at 12:30 p.m. Sunday when they take on the Winthrop Eagles.
