PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Purdue University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up an outstanding three-day performance at the Penn Relays on Saturday as the men's 4x400-meter relay squad placed sixth in the Championship of America field to headline today.
The foursome of Juniors Keith Hopkins, Brian Kaluf and Jh'Rome Tuggle and sophomore Zach Logan clocked a time of 3:10.59 in the race among the nation's elite. Hopkins and senior Rickey Pinkney also competed in the championship heat of the men's 110-meter high hurdles, grabbing fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 13.88 and 13.91.
The women's 4x800-meter relay squad of seniors Corrie Whisner and Laura Farley and first-years Kristin Phillips and Ashlee Lengacher placed 13th in the Championship of America field, clocking a time of 8:51.50.
Sophomore Ben Harpenau placed second in the men's collegiate hammer throw, hurling it 58.95 meters (193-05), while senior Brian Williams took seventh in the men's collegiate javelin with a mark of 60.74 meters (199-03).
"It was a pretty solid meet for us," said Purdue head coach Jack Warner. "It was great for our guys to compete against the best in the nation in the 4x400 Championship of America, and I thought that our athletes gave great efforts all the way around."
The Boilers return to action next weekend at the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.
