WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 13 Penn State (8-3-2, 4-1 Big Ten) shut out Purdue (10-3-2, 3-2 Big Ten) 2-0 Friday afternoon at the Varsity Soccer Complex.

Penn State goals were scored by Aubrey Aden-Buie in the 23rd minute and Katie Schoepfer in the 67th minute. Aden-Buie assisted Schoepfer's insurance goal.

Aden-Buie's goal was a result of a turnover by Purdue in their attacking third of the field. It then only took Penn State two passes to get the ball up to Aden-Buie who had split two defensive backs on her way up the right side of the field.

Faced with a one-vs.-one situation with Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason, Aden-Buie shot the ball only to have it deflect upwards. The ball took two high and awkward bounces before crossing the line. Mason made a diving attempt to toss the ball back but came up empty handed.

Penn State's second and final score was perfectly executed as Aden-Buie found Schoepfer in motion as she crossed into the six-yard box between two Boilermaker defenders. Schoepfer promptly one-timed the ball into the left side of the net without missing a beat.

Mason finished the match with eight saves and two goals allowed.

The Nittany Lions outshot the Boilermakers, 18-6, including 13-0 in the first half. Purdue's lone shot on goal was a high floater by Jill Sarbaugh in the closing minutes.

Purdue came close to tying the match early in the second half. Loredana Riverso had a great look at the net only to see the ball bounce off the near post and back into traffic. Sarabugh went after the rebound but her attempt was deflected out by a Nittany Lion leading to a corner kick.

Kira Bilecky got her head on Sarbuagh's ensuing corner, but the shot sailed wide.

Purdue has plenty of time to get ready for its next opponent, the Northwestern Wildcats. The Boilermakers play host to Evanston's finest on Friday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m.
