LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Jh'Rome Tuggle provided the Boilermakers four victories Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational. The Old Gold and Black received solid competition from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East as a tune up for next weekend's Penn Relays.
Tuggle has proved to be Purdue's top option in the 200 and 400 this season, winning on several occasions throughout the indoor and outdoor campaigns. Saturday was no different as Tuggle finished the 200 in 21.82 and the 400 in 47.81. He also ran anchor on two winning Boilermaker relays.
Tuggle's 4x100-meter relay, with Keith Hopkins, Nolan Petties and Rickey Pinkney, completed its course in 41.45. His 4x400-meter relay of Terrell Thompson, Brian Kaluf and Hopkins finished with a season-best mark of 3:12.54.
Pinkney and Hopkins also gave Purdue a first/second showing in the 110-meter hurdles, recording regional qualifying times of 14.12 and 14.24.
In the field, Boilermaker newcomers Andrew Rademacher and Brian Williams won their respective events. Rademacher was tops in the pole vault at 4.80 meters and Williams was No. 1 in the javelin with a personal record of 60.08 meters.
Sophomore Kara Patterson won her fourth javelin title of the 2006 outdoor season with a regional qualifying mark of 49.81 meters. Teammate Lindsay Blaine put forth a solid second-place effort of 47.75 meters. The Boilermaker duo beat the rest of the field by close to five meters.
One of the day's biggest highlights was the addition of Lindsay Polhemus to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships roster. She became the 11th female Boilermaker to qualify for regionals after placing second in the discus with a distance of 47.53. Emily Turland of Louisville won the discus title with a measurement of 48.45 meters.
Five other Boilermakers posted regional qualifying marks. Jocelyn Lindsay led a sweep of the top three spots in the pole vault, topping out at 3.91 meters. Brianna Neumann and Mallory Peck finished behind the senior with top jumps of 3.80 meters. Sheena James won the shot put with a push of 14.87 meters and Leah Kincaid won the 100 hurdles with a season best time of 13.91. Kincaid also won the long jump with a leap of 5.90 meters.
The Boilermakers took first in the 4x400-meter relay, as well, with Ashley Kemp, Brooke Woodruff, Laura Farley and Lauren Scott combining to finish the course in 3:50.58.
