SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Boilermaker men's and women's track teams posted a variety of results against tough competition during Day 1 action at the Meyo Invitational, which features 34 different teams. The women's distance medley relay team set a school record in the event.

On the men's side, Purdue posted five positions among the top eight in three different events.

Freshman Eric Sparks (Hermitage, Pa.) finished fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 16-feet 6 ¾ inches, while junior John Porter (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Andrew Rademacher (Hermitage, Pa.) placed fifth and seventh respectively with clearances of 16-feet ¾ inches (4.90m). The mark was a career-best for Porter, topping his previous best of 4.88 meters.

Sophomore Jh'Rome Tuggle (Gary, Ind.) took fourth in the 300-meter dash with a clocking of 34.68, while junior Terrell Thompson (Shaker Heights, Ohio) finished fifth in the 500-meter run in a time of 1:05.24.

On the women's side, the distance medley relay team finished sixth in a school record time of 11:38.49. The time eclipsed the old mark of 11:38.91 set in 1982. Laura Farley, Ina Jackson, Brooke Woodruff, and Corrie Whisner made up the record-breaking squad.

Sophomore Sheena James (Clinton, Iowa) took ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-feet 7-inches. Senior Tiffany Colvin (Cleveland, Ohio) and senior Laura Stier (Greensburg, Ind.) each finished 11th in the high jump with identical clearances of 5-feet-5.

Sophomore Leah Kincaid (Springfield, Ill.) posted a leap of 18-7 ¾ in the long jump for 12th place, while freshman Lauren Scott (Cary, Ill.) clocked a 41.07 in the 300-meter dash.
