WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams will host Indiana State in a home dual meet on Friday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. in Lambert Fieldhouse. The annual Edmonds Cup will be up for grabs again, as the Boilermakers will look to defend their undefeated title.

"This meet is such a unique meet," said Purdue head coach Lissa Olson. "We've never lost and even though it's not a conference match-up, it still is an in-state battle every year. We compete with each other for recruits and the meet is always very competitive, partly because of that. Both the athletes and the coaching staffs know that this is always a high-energy, fast-paced event. It's so different from our usual meets that I really enjoy it."

The Edmonds Cup has been in existence since 1996, with the Boilermakers winning every year over the Sycamores. Named for long-time USA Track and Field official and former Purdue women's coach Gene Edmonds, the award will again be presented by Mr. Edmonds on Friday evening to the winning team. That team's representatives will then be given the opportunity to take a victory lap around the track with the trophy.

The Boilermaker men come into the meet on Friday with two wins over both Indiana and Ohio State last weekend in Lambert. The biggest highlight of the day was junior Kenneth Baxter's Purdue, fieldhouse and lifetime records, along with an NCAA automatic cut time in the 200-meter dash, along with his win in the 60-meter dash.

Senior Prentice Stovall also improved his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles, while the men's throwers all improved upon their season-best throws. The distance troop of Kyle Orender and Jon Hoggatt also competed well, winning the 3,000 meters and the 800 meters.

For the women, senior pole vaulters Simona Kovacic and Amy Spellmeyer finished 1-2 and junior Tiffany Britten came in third and fifth in the shot put and weight throw. Distance freshman Laura Farley came in with a women's win in the mile run. The women's squad also finished first in the 4x400 relay with a season-best time of 3:51.51.

Following this weekend's dual meet in Lambert, the Old Gold and Black will not return home again until Feb. 22, when they host the Boilermaker Invitational. The meet will start at 9 a.m.
