WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams will host a tri-meet with the Indiana Hoosiers and the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday in Lambert Fieldhouse. The meet will start at 9:30 a.m.
The Boilermaker men enter the meet with a Trackwire ranking of 13th, while the Ohio State men are tied for 15th. The Hoosier men's team is ranked 14th, while the Hoosier women are ninth.
The Old Gold and Black comes into the weekend with one meet, the Purdue Invitational, under their belt. The meet, held last Saturday, was not scored, but the Boilermakers fared well in several events.
In the women's shot put, junior Tiffany Britten set a personal record with her first-place finish. In the men's shot put, junior Scott Hecht set a PR with his win. Hecht also set a personal record with his third-place weight throw finish. Junior Keith McBride recorded an NCAA provisional mark with a weight toss of 20.19 meters (69'6 ?").
Sophomore Jamar Green set a personal record with a win in the long jump. His jump of 7.37 meters (24'2 ?") was just shy of the NCAA provisional cut, while senior Shaun Guice won the men's high jump and set a provisional mark for the NCAA Championships with a jump of 2.21 meters (7'3").
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, senior Prentice Stovall set a Purdue school record and provisionally qualified for NCAA's with a time of 7.92.
In the distance events, sophomore David Rae won the men's 3,000 meter race in 8:47.65, and sophomore Lindsay Zinn claimed a first-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 17:23.98.
Wrapping up the day, the Boilermakers took first, second, third and fourth places in the men's 60-meter dash with junior Kenneth Baxter recording a personal-record time of 6.77.
The Hoosiers competed in an invitational meet in Ann Arbor last weekend. The men placed first, defeating Michigan, Michigan State and Kent State. The women placed second behind the Wolverines.
The Buckeyes come to Lambert Fieldhouse with two meets behind them. On Saturday, Jan. 11, they hosted the Buckeye Invitational, a non-scored meet. Last weekend the Scarlet and Gray men's and women's teams defeated both Illinois and Illinois State at the Illinois Invitational in Champaign.
