Women's Track and Field In Second at Big Ten Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After Day One of the Big Ten Championships hosted by Penn State, the Purdue women's track and field team is in second place with 36.5 points. Michigan leads the field with 43, while Wisconsin is in third with 29.5 points.

The Boilermakers continued their dominance of the women's pole vault. School and conference record holder senior Ebbie Metzinger won the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 4.01m/13-1.75. Classmate Katie Rorem placed fourth with a vault of 3.66m/12-00.00. Junior Simona Kovacic tied for seventh with a mark of 3.66m/12-00.00.

Cross country Rookie of the Year Lindsay Zinn ran an NCAA provisional time of 9:26.93 to take first place in the 3,000m run. Senior Barbara Wenger placed seventh with a time of 9:50.89 to earn valuable points for Purdue.

Sophomore Angela Anoliefoh placed fourth in the heptathlon with 3,798 points. The women's distance medley team comprised of Julie Sennott, Kim Jordan, Kelly VanAbeele and Ann Stechshulte, placed eighth with a time of 12:08.64.

Sophomore Kim Jordan broke a Penn State Fieldhouse record with a time of 2:08.70 in the preliminaries of the 800m run. She and rookie Kelly Van Abeele advanced to Sunday's finals in the event. Big Ten Championship Action resumes at 9 a.m.
