WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field team had success on the road at the Hawkeye Invitational. The Boilermakers garnered four NCAA marks at the open meet.
All-American Serene Ross led a trio of Old Gold and Black weight throwers with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.00m/59-0.75. Cynthia Bortz and Lisa Davis claimed second and third in the event with respective throws of 17.32m/56-10.00 and 16.75m/51-11.50.
Fellow All-American Shaun Guice led a trio of Boilermaker high jumpers with an NCAA provisional mark of 2.16m/7-1.00. Ryan Fitzpatric and Joe Thomas were second and third, with marks of 2.01m/6-7.00.
Nick Swathwood won the shot put with his second NCAA provisional mark of the season with a throw of 17.77m/58-3.75. Ebbie Metzinger followed last week's record-breaking performance by provisionally qualifying in the pole vault with a mark of 3.96m/12-11.75.
The Boilermakers claimed the top spots in the men's and women's 60m hurdles. Prentice Stovall set a Rec Building record with a time of 8.18. Krissy Liphardt won on the women's side with a time of 8.53.
Purdue claimed the top four spots in the women's long jump with Jan Eichenauer leading the way with a mark of 5.58m/18-3.75. Janelle Johnson won the triple jump with a mark of 11.61m/38-1.25.
Daniel Harris won the men's long jump with a mark of 7.11m/23-4.00 and the triple jump with a mark of 15.21m/49-11.00.
Former Big Ten Freshman of the Year Jacques Reeves won the 200m dash with a time of 21.68. Shanna Carter won the 400m with a time of 1:00m78.
Current Cross Country Rookie of the Year Lindsay Zinn led a trio of Boilermakers in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:01.04. Christian Bahler won the mile with a time of 5:18.26. Matt Hartman won the 800m run with a time of 1:54.76 and Doug Payne won the 600m with a time of 1:22.81.
The Boilermakers return home on Friday to compete against Indiana State for the Edmonds Cup. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
