Douglas Heats Up In Big Boilermaker Win Over Florida

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Katie Douglas broke out of a one-game shooting slump to score 31 points and lead No. 20 Purdue past Florida, 90-50 on Friday night.

Douglas, who scored 31 points in the Boilermakers' Nov. 19 opener at Dayton and followed with 24 last Sunday against Vanderbilt, was held to just six points on Wednesday against Valparaiso. She entered the Florida game with a 20.3 scoring average.

Douglas left the game with 7:01 remaining after hitting two free throws to give Purdue a 77-38 lead. She finished 11 of 24 from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the line. She capped off the night with six rebounds and seven assists.

Michelle Duhart and Shinika Parks added 10 points apiece for the Boilermakers (4-0). Duhart also finished with nine rebounds.

Florida (1-1) was led Tiffany Travis with 10 points.

The Boilermakers broke the game open with a 16-0 run ignited by a Camille Cooper field goal during the final 5:21 of the first half. Douglas scored five of her 19 first-half points during that stretch, including a 3-pointer at the 2:49 mark. Purdue led 44-28 at halftime.

The Boilermakers began the second half in the same fashion - with a 10-0 run sparked by Douglas. Mary Jo Noon's two free throws with 16:17 remaining gave Purdue a 54-28 lead.

Douglas also scored two free throws with 16:42 remaining after Florida coach Carol Ross was whistled for a technical foul.

The Boilermakers capitalized on 49-percent shooting from the field, including 53 percent in the first half when Purdue hit 20 of 38 shots. The Boilermakers finished 32 of 66 from the field, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Florida shot a dismal 27 percent, hitting only 16 of 59 attempts, 2 of 14 from 3-point range.

Purdue held a 50-39 rebound edge as Florida committed seven more turnovers (18-11).
