Glenn Tompkins served as the chief financial officer for the athletics department from 1989 to 2013, when he moved into partial retirement. In his current position, he serves in an advisory role while managing the finances of facility projects. He was named senior associate athletics director in 1999.

During Tompkins' full-time tenure, he oversaw 23 consecutive years of operating surpluses, the addition of two women's sports, and nearly a quarter of a billion dollars of facility construction and renovation.

Tompkins came to Purdue to fill an internship in the Bursar's Office in 1969 and returned in 1970 after receiving his bachelor's in accounting from Ball State University. Glenn also attended the University of Illinois-Chicago Circle. He was the business administrator for the Agricultural Experiment Station (1977-88), business administrator for the University Development Office (1972-77) and business representative in engineering (1970-72).

In 2006, he was honored by the College Athletic Business Management Association as the 2005-06 Manager of the Year. He became the first representative from Purdue to win this award since its founding in 1966.
