Toyinda Wilson
Former Purdue All-American Toyinda Smith Wilson is in her third season as volunteer assistant coach. Her main duties will be to assist John Zera with the throwers.

Wilson, who walked on to the track team, completed a decorated athletic career at Purdue in 1999. As a senior, she won the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championship in the 20-pound weight throw. Wilson was a two-time All-American, five-time Big Ten champion and two-time team MVP. In addition, she was a Big Ten runner-up in the discus as a freshman and junior. She also was selected as the 1999 Red Mackey Grant winner, an award that recognizes athletes who exemplify the overall success of Purdue intercollegiate athletics.

In 2002, Wilson finished third in the indoor USATF competition in the 20-pound weight throw. Her throw surpassed her collegiate best by more than 3 feet.

In addition to volunteering with track and field, Wilson serves as coordinator of the MARC/AIM (Minority Access to Research Careers/Access Internally for Minorities) Program department of Graduate Schools. She owns a home-based special event decorating business. Wilson is a member of the Alpha Sigma Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and serves as the undergraduate faculty advisor at Purdue. She has competed in the 20-pound hammer and discus under Zera with the Indiana Invaders Track and Field Club.

A native of Gary, Ind., Wilson graduated from Purdue in 1999 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and sociology, and an associate degree in organizational leadership and supervision. She earned Level I USATF certification in 2000. Wilson served as assistant coach at Frontier Junior/Senior High School in Chalmers, Ind., and volunteer assistant coach at West Lafayette Junior High School.

Wilson and her husband, Al-Von, reside in Lafayette with their daughter, Aryal. The couple is expecting a second child in early April.
