Ian Rickerby is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Purdue women's soccer team. Rickerby is involved in all aspects of the program, from recruiting to field instruction. Prior to joining the Purdue staff, Rickerby was the first assistant coach at Iowa from March 1999 to February 2000, before being promoted to interim head coach from February 2000 to July 2000. During his tenure at Iowa, the Hawkeyes posted a 13-7 record and collected a third-place finish in the Big Ten regular season in only their third year of existence.
Before joining Iowa's staff, Rickerby was the first assistant coach at Evansville, where the Purple Aces tallied three consecutive Missouri Valley Conference championships and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Rickerby spent the first three years of his coaching career as an assistant at Siena Heights College in Adrian, Mich., before moving on to become a successful head coach at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. There, he led the Vikings to a second-place finish in the 1991 NAIA National Tournament and was chosen as District 16 Coach of the Year.
Rickerby is a 1987 graduate of the University of Warwick in Coventry, England, and holds a B.A. in philosophy and literature. He received his M.A. from Siena in 1990.
A native of Manchester, England, Rickerby is a USSF 'A' licensed coach and was an Indiana Olympic Development Program state coach from 1994 to 1998. He has been on the ODP Region II staff since 1998. Rickerby also has been a select team coaching director.
