Former Purdue tennis player Brooke Beier is returning to the role of volunteer assistant coach for the Boilermakers while working toward her PhD in biomedical engineering.
Beier spent the 2009-10 season as an assistant coach for the team while also completing requirements for her master's degree in biomedical engineering. The East China, Mich., native worked with the team on the court and also played an important role in recruiting. The 2009-10 Boilermakers set a program record with 17 wins during the season, while Jennifer Rabot and Michelle Sammons became the first pair of Purdue women[apos]s tennis players to be named Big Ten Athlete of the Week in the same season. Rabot and Sammons also broke the single-season doubles wins by a duo record by collecting 27 victories, and Rabot was named All-Big Ten to stretch Purdue[apos]s consecutive seasons with at least one all-conference performer streak to six, which is another program record.
Beier lettered for the Boilermakers from 2005-08. She was named All-Big Ten in 2008 and was an Academic All-Big Ten selection from 2006-08. Her 79 career doubles wins are tied with Jennifer Embry for the school record, and Beier's 73 career singles wins tie her for fifth-most in school history with Molly McGrath. Beier was voted team captain her senior season and was on the most recent Purdue team to advance to the NCAA tournament in 2006.
Ranks in nineteen different all-time categories for Purdue women's tennis including leading career doubles percentage for a team with Randi Schuler at 81% (17-4) and most combined career spring wins with 100. Beier is runner-up in the categories: consecutive team doubles streak 10-0 with Randi Schuler (2005-06) and career doubles for an individual with 78 wins.
Beier remained around the team after her playing career ended by serving as a volunteer assistant coach on the 2008-09 staff. During the 2009 dual-match season, the Boilermakers more than doubled their overall win total from 2008 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament with a roster that featured only one senior.
