2007-2008... Coach Smith and his Boilermakers made great strides in the improvement of the program with a strong start at summer cheerleading camp bring home many awards including most collegiate division 1A University, best all around team, best spirit routine and a hand full of all Americans. The boilermakers placed in the top 12 at the national cheerleaders Association national competition continuing the streak of 14 straight years rank in the top 20 of division 1A universities.
2006-07 ... Joining the Boilermakers in March of 2007 coach Smith and his Boilermakers placed 6th at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) national competition.
Personal...Coach Smith comes to Purdue after a stint at Wichita State University where he served as the head coach of the small co-ed spirit squad in 2005-2006. Coach Smith led his 2006 Shockers to a national championship at Nation[apos]s Best Championships. Prior to coaching the shockers coach smith was a head coach for a number of all-star gyms in the Wichita area leading his teams to many national titles.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Arthur graduated in 2006 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in Ethnic Studies and a minor in sociology from Wichita State University. Arthur was a cheerleader for 4yrs serving as captain as from 2003-2005. As a member of the spirit squad his teams placed 5th in 2003 and 2nd at the National Cheerleaders Association in 2004, 2005, 2006.
Coach Smith is certified in first aid and is a member of AACCA certified coaches. Along with coaching the spirit squad Arthur Smith is the spirit coordinator and oversees Purdue Pete mascot team.
