Kelsey Brouwer is in her fourth season at Purdue as an assistant coach in 2023, and she primarily coaches Purdue’s goalkeepers.
A standout collegiate goalkeeper, Brouwer earned conference defensive player of the year accolades and was a team captain. She then played professionally for FC Kansas City and Apollon Ladies F.C. in Limassol, Cyprus.
The 2022 season saw Brouwer help welcome a top-20 recruiting class, one of the highest-ranked freshman classes in school history. That included Kayla Budish, who was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, the first Boilermaker to be bestowed with freshman accolades since 2017 and the third since 2009. The 2022 campaign began with a memorable opening-night win, as the Boilermakers bested 15th-ranked USC in front of 3,296 fans on the Big Ten Network, the largest crowd in team history. That helped the team set a new season average attendance record for the second year in a row.
Brouwer helped lead the Boilermakers to the NCAA Tournament and the team's second-best record in program history in 2021, as the team earned its fifth All-American and first two NWSL draft picks. Purdue went 15-4-3, its second-most wins ever, with an 8-2-0 Big Ten mark to place second, tied for both its best conference finish and most wins in school history. The season finished in the NCAA Tournament Second Round as the squad made the postseason for the seventh time ever and first since 2009. The Boilermakers were ranked nationally for the first time since 2009, and they appeared in the final poll for the third time ever, at No. 24.
Under Brouwer's guidance, senior goalkeeper Marisa Bova capped a record-breaking Purdue career with an outstanding senior season. She and senior forward Sarah Griffith were selected in the NWSL Draft, the first two NWSL draft picks in program history. Bova was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, the third Boilermaker goalkeeper ever recognized, as an impressive five players earned All-Big Ten accolades, the second-most All-Big Ten awardees in Purdue history and more than the team's total in the previous nine years combined. Griffith was named the fifth All-American in program history and was recognized as Purdue's second ever Big Ten Forward of the Year. Griffith and sophomore midfielder Emily Mathews earned All-Region honors, while all 21 eligible players were named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team in 2021. Attendance records also were broken in 2021, highlighted by a record crowd of 2,125 to open the season. Bova broke the school record for saves (113), which was No. 15 nationally in 2021, and finishes her career No. 2 all-time at Purdue with 21 shutouts, a 0.91 goals-against average and a .807 save percentage to highlight her numerous appearances in the record books.

That included a 2017 OVC Defensive Player of the Year honor for Kari Naerdemann, who allowed a program-best eight goals, besting the previous school mark by five. Under Brouwer’s guidance, Naerdemann also set the team record for goals against average, with a mark of 0.45 in 2017, and broke the TTU record for career wins, shutouts, goals-against average and save percentage.
Brouwer’s responsibilities at Tennessee Tech also included coordinating team travel, on-campus visits, alumni events and community service in addition to recruiting and camps.
Since 2017, Brouwer also has served as a goalkeeper coach for the Tennessee State Soccer Association’s Olympic Development Program and was the head coach and goalkeeping director for the Upper Cumberland United Soccer & All-IN FC.
Brouwer was a volunteer assistant coach at Drake University in 2016. The Bulldogs went 12-4-3 with Brouwer on staff, and the goalkeepers led the conference in fewest goals allowed, goals-against average and shutouts.
Brouwer was the starting goalkeeper in the 2016 UEFA Women’s Champions League for Apollon Ladies F.C., where she helped guide her club to the round of 32. She also spent time playing for FC Kansas City in 2016.
As a student-athlete at Middle Tennessee from 2012-15, Brouwer was named the 2015 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, was a team captain and earned the C-USA Spirit of Service Award. She started nine matches as a freshman to help lead the Blue Raiders to a Sun Belt Conference regular-season title, and proceeded to start every match the next three years. As a senior in 2015, Brouwer was named to the All-Conference USA First Team in addition to Defensive Player of the Year accolades after she posted an .876 save percentage, second-best in team history, and made 113 saves, No. 4 all-time. Brouwer also had 10 shutouts to break her own school record of seven, which she set as a junior the previous year.
Brouwer graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in management and minoring in business administration. Brouwer earned her master’s degree in business administration from Tennessee Tech in 2019. She is married to Vincent Okot and the couple are parents of twins.
