Purdue Athletics' mental health services provide a nonjudgmental perspective in an accepting environment that can help student-athletes find direction, as well as possible courses of action in order to improve their situation. Commonly addressed topics include: coping with life stressors, time management, coping with injury, career transitions, eating disorders, substance abuse, relationship stress, depression, anxiety and many others.

Boilermaker student-athletes are eligible to receive free individual services from one of two sport psychologists or the department's program development specialist who is currently working toward her degree and subsequent licensure as a licensed professional counselor. Individual services consist of addressing presenting concerns related to mental health, mental skills for performance, but most commonly a combination of both.

Signs that may warrant services include, but are not limited to: increased and prolonged stress, drop in grades, lack of motivation, decreased athletic performance, missing classes or practice, decreased life satisfaction, decreased fulfillment in relationships, difficulty focusing, feeling more down or sad than usual, worrying, spending more time alone, suicidal thoughts and other general distress.
