Purdue Begins New Week of Fall Camp

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Football began its third week of fall camp on Monday morning (August 17).

Every coach and student-athlete has praised the program’s depth throughout fall camp. There are battles at nearly every position, and head coach Barry Odom can tell the difference this season as he prepares for year two at the helm.

“It’s a real competition,” said Odom. “We didn’t have that at a lot of spots last year. There’s still a lot of battles going on out there… Guys know if they don’t bring their A-game, the guy behind them is going to take their spot.”

Charles Correa, Honorable Mention All-Big Ten last season, leads what is shaping up to be a talented and deep linebacker room. With the departure of Mani Powell, who is currently with the Tennessee Titans, Purdue looks to fill the role next to Correa through portal additions.

A pair of juniors, Jojo Hayden and Anthony Speca, come to West Lafayette with multiple years of experience in the Big Ten. Hayden appeared in 21 games across three seasons at Illinois, while Speca played in 17 during two seasons at Penn State. The Boilers also added Tre Moore, an All-PFL Second Team honoree in the FCS at San Diego, and brought back Hudson Miller who spent two seasons at Purdue before he played at Toledo last season.

“We have a bunch of guys that are going to play this year,” said Correa. “We have depth at every position in the linebacker room. Guys are going to get to play and get experience. I’m excited for our room, and we’re such a tight-knit group.”

One of Purdue’s deepest rooms, the wide receiver group features 16 players with many of them getting a chance at first team reps. The Boilers added five through the portal and two freshmen, and returner Chauncey Magwood is taking a lead on guiding the room throughout the season.

“It’s definitely a learning moment for me to be the oldest in the room,” said Magwood. “Being able to be competitive but also step up and do everything right so all the younger guys can see.”

Purdue returns to the field on Tuesday (August 18).

I’m fired up about playing in Ross-Ade. Our fans are going to be tremendous, and our players are going to give them something to cheer for.
