WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Westin Boyle connected for Purdue Baseball’s seventh grand slam of the season and the Boilermakers scored seven times in the sixth inning to overwhelm Murray State 17-8, completing a three-game series sweep Sunday at Alexander Field.
Purdue (32-15) swept a weekend series for the fourth time this season and improved to 17-6 at home.
SUNDAY NOTABLES
• The Boilermakers’ 17 home wins are the program’s most in the Alexander Field era (2013-present) and one shy of the most this century (18 in 2008). Purdue has an opportunity to post just the second 20-win season at home in team history (22-6 in 1982).
• The Boilermakers did not trail at any point during their four games this week, spanning the front half of a season-long eight-game homestand. They have not trailed after a full inning of action in a weekend (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) game at Alexander since April 5 vs. Illinois. Purdue overcame a five-run first inning to win that day and its haven’t-trailed streak (at home on weekends) now spans 61 consecutive innings.
• The Boilermakers’ four weekend series sweeps are their most since also sweeping four in 2024.
• Based on the results around the Big Ten this weekend, Purdue has clinched a Big Ten Tournament berth. It’s the earliest on the calendar the Boilers have clinched since 2018.
• Westin Boyle is the sixth Boilermaker to hit a grand slam this season. Purdue hit four of its seven slams – easily the team’s most this century – the week of March 25-29 but had gone without one since.
• For the second day in a row, a Boilermaker hit his 10th home run of the season. CJ Richmond matched Sam Flores for the team lead Sunday. Purdue has multiple players with 10-plus homers for third time in four seasons and fifth time this century.
• Gavin Beuter surrendered a run in the eighth inning, ending a pair of streaks – 11 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings and 15 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
The Boilermakers batted around during their seven-run sixth inning, with Eli Anderson, Quincy Malbrough and Jackson Bessette all connecting for two-run singles during the rally. In his second plate appearance of the frame, CJ Richmond barreled up for an RBI double off the center field wall.
Richmond also hit the longest home run of the season at Alexander Field, a 440-foot blast off the batter’s eye in center field to lead off the fourth inning.

Jake Kramer closed out the win with a scoreless ninth inning as the only reliever for either team to pitch a full inning and go unscored upon. He has not been charged with a run in 11 appearances at home this season.
Zach Zychowski energized the crowd and Purdue dugout with a triple into the right field corner in the seventh inning, scoring on an RBI single from Anderson moments later. The following frame, when Zychowski’s spot in the lineup came up again, Jimmy Dionne’s RBI single was his team-leading fourth pinch hit of the season.
