Big Ten Announces Women's Tennis Home/Away Rotations

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The home and away opponent rotation for the upcoming 2027 and 2028 spring women’s tennis seasons were released by the Big Ten conference office.

The schedule features seven home matches and six away matches in 2027. At home, Purdue will host Illinois and Northwestern in Week 1 and Indiana in Week 2. Then in Week 3, the team travels to Minnesota and Wisconsin before returning home in Week 4 for Oregon and Washington. Week 5 will bring Purdue out east to Maryland and Rutgers, followed by Week 6 at Iowa and Nebraska. Purdue closes out the regular-season slate at home, hosting USC and UCLA.

Purdue will have its longest homestand with the beginning of the season, hosting three straight at home. Its longest road test will be four straight duals as the season begins to wind down. In total, the Boilermakers will have a stretch with six of eight duals in opponent territory.

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers’ 2028 home/away opponents will be flipped, traveling to the teams they hosted in 2027. Week 1 will bring Purdue out west to Oregon and Washington before hosting Iowa and Nebraska for the Big Ten home opener in Week 2. Week 3 and 4 will bring the Boilermakers back on the road, at Indiana, followed by a trip to Northwestern and Illinois. Then, Purdue will begin a four-match homestand against Michigan and Michigan State in Week 5 and Maryland and Rutgers in Week 6. For the final week of regular-season action, Purdue will travel to Penn State and Ohio State.

All matches are currently slated for Saturday/Sunday showdowns, however they are subject to change. Times will be released at a later time.

Purdue will be entering the 2026-27 season with second-year head coach Raquel Atawo, who led the squad to a 7-14 record in her first season with an underclassmen-heavy roster that included five of eight members (62%) at their freshman or sophomore seasons.  Purdue entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings in all categories: team, singles and doubles, seeing the squad ranked No. 61 in March, sophomore No. 1 position player Ece Gencer rank No. 117 at the start of the season, and the doubles pair of Gencer and Ida Clement consistently ranked for the last three weeks of the year, checking in as high as No. 44.
