BOILERMAKER NOTABLES
- Purdue now sits at a record of 4-12 (0-7 Big Ten), which includes three of the four wins coming on the team’s home court.
- Leading the team in singles wins this spring are sophomore Nour Fathalla (6-7), freshman Jacob Lee (7-4), and Juan David Velasquez (6-6).
- Lee picked up his fourth Big Ten win over the weekend against Aryan Badlani, 7-6(1), 7-6(5). This is the most Big Ten wins out of any player on the lineup this spring. He now holds a significant 4-0 record in tiebreak sets since becoming a Boilermaker.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Purdue takes on #68 Northwestern this Saturday, coming off of a 0-5 loss versus Big Ten opponent, #1 Ohio State. Northwestern comes into the matchup with an overall record of 13-10, (1-6 Big Ten) with 11 wins at home.
- Northwestern has one ranked doubles pair, Carter Pate and Greyson Casey at #18.
- In their meeting last year, Purdue came up just short versus Northwestern with a 3-4 loss. Then freshman Fathalla put up an impressive showing versus Vincent Yang, defeating him 6-1, 4-6, and 6-2.
- On the second match of the weekend, Purdue travels to Champaign to play #14 Illinois. Illinois puts up a record of 16-5 (6-2 Big Ten), while also receiving 11 wins at home.
- The Fighting Illini lineup includes three singles players in ITA rankings, as well as two doubles rankings; #17 Kenta Miyoshi, #37 Gabriel Debru, and #76 William Mroz round out the singles, with pair #52 of William Mroz and Kenta Miyoshi, and #56 Kenta Miyoshi and Adam Jilly representing the doubles.
- Last year, Purdue made waves by defeating then-#20 Illinois, 4-3, for the program’s highest ranked win in 11 years. Then-freshman Maj Premzl clinched a tight win over Jeremy Zhang 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3. Another notable win was picked up by Fathalla over Zach Viiala at the five singles spot, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-0.
