BOILERMAKER LOOK BACK (2/6-2/8)
- Freshman Jacob Lee secured Purdue’s victory over Western Michigan with a gripping 4-3 duel-decider at No. 6 singles position, downing opponent Jack Davison, with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win. This marks his second win in just three appearances (2-0, one unfinished).
- Last week, junior Stefan Simeunovic triumphed over Tim Reidel of Western Michigan at the No.3 spot in singles to secure the dual-tying point with 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 wins.
- At the No. 2 singles spot, junior Henrik Villanger defeated Alex Antonopoulos of Western Michigan on February 6, to improve his spring record to an impressive 4-2.
- In a similar fashion, junior Juan David Velasquez secured the win over Western Michigan’s Chen Hui Ho at the No. 5, bettering his record to 5-2.
- Although Purdue ultimately fell to Yale, in total, four sets went to either tiebreak or super tiebreak moments.
- Versus the Yale Bulldogs, doubles pair of sophomore Nour Fathalla and Henrik Villanger rose to the occasion and came from behind to take the match, 7-6(7). The duo earned an undefeated weekend in doubles, also earning a 6-1 win just two days prior to Western Michigan.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Purdue (3-4) heads to Madison, Wis. to take on Big Ten opponents Wisconsin on Sunday, February 15.
- Wisconsin comes into the duel with a 6-1 record, as well as a win streak of five, and 4-0 at home. Michael Minasyan of Wisconsin is currently ranked 75th in Division I singles.
- Last year against Wisconsin, then-freshman Maj Premzl picked up a point for Purdue, beating Tomas Zlatohlavek, 6-4, 6-4.
