Teaming with the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, the Boilermakers raised $35,004 for their annual Hammer Down Cancer game, played Jan. 24, against Michigan. The Boilermakers wore special jerseys with the traditional volt color scheme, as well as warm-up shirts. Additionally, fans were able to donate to have ribbon board messages in support of cancer patients.

Over the last three years, Purdue has raised almost $190,000 during its annual Hammer Down Cancer game for the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research.

This last week for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer week, the Purdue coaching staff wore Nike Basketball Air Force 1's designed by cancer patients at the Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. The six pairs were then auctioned with proceeds going back to Riley Children's Hospital, raising over $8,000, including $4,500 for Coach Painter's shoes.
