The Boilermakers are set to have co-ed representation at the Ohio State Invitational for the first time since November 2011, which was also the last time the Purdue men had full representation at the annual meet. The Purdue women won the Ohio State Invitational in their last appearance in November 2014.

The Boilermakers are not hosting the Purdue Invitational this month for the first time since 2018 (excluding 2020). The men went to Iowa, the women to Indiana, and the divers to Texas the last time the Purdue Invite was not part of the schedule.

However, the Boilers have participated in plenty of notable multi-day meets at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in the last two years. Ohio State hosted the 2024 men’s Big Ten Championships, the 2025 women’s Big Ten Championships, and the 2025 (co-ed) NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. Active Boilermakers Max Miller, Kaden Springfield, Zach Welsh, Tyler Wills, Avery Worobel and Daryn Wright all qualified for the NCAA Championships in March based on their performances in Columbus. With nearly 100 divers entered (men and women combined), there will be a similar vibe to Zones in the diving well this week. The divers are also slated to compete on platform for the first time this season.

The Purdue women also sent a group of swimmers to Columbus in mid-July this summer for a Speedo Sectionals long course meet.

Kelsey Cooper (Dublin) and Hannah Hill (Springboro) are Purdue’s Ohio natives that return to their home state this week.

TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS BY ACTIVE BOILERMAKERS AT BIG TENS WHEN OSU HOSTED THE LAST 2 YEARS
Men in 2024
Dylan Burau eclipses Purdue record in 200 back as an A finalist
Holden Higbie wins 1-meter consolation final, scores in all three diving events as a freshman
Max Miller (1-meter & 3-meter) Pat Broderick (1650 free, 400 IM), Nathaniel Thomas (50 free) also score as freshmen
Women in 2025
Daryn Wright Top 5 in all three diving events, winning Bronze on platform
Avery Worobel Top 5 on both springboards, winning Silver on 3-meter
Campbell Scofield an A finalist in 200 fly, Purdue’s first freshman swimmer to achieve the feat since 2015
Kate Mouser scores in all three of her individual events for second year in a row at Big Tens
Adele Sands scores in all three of her individual events as a freshman
Abby Marcukaitis (100 back) and Keira Kask (200 fly) win C finals

Over the summer, the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America proposed updates to the format and qualification standards for the NCAA Division I Championships. Among them were a revamped event schedule that shuffled the deck for the national championship meet. Those updates and changes were formally approved on Sept. 24 and go into effect for the upcoming championship season in March. This week’s Ohio State Invitational will be the first look at that new event schedule. The 100 free, 100 back, 200 back and 200 fly are the only individual swimming events set to be contested on the same day of the meet as they were previously held. Diving finals are also being split into rounds 1-3 and 4-6, although that is not be utilized this week with 12-diver finals as part of a co-ed meet. The 1650 free is moving to the opening night session at NCAAs as well, but remains on the final day of the meet this week.

The annual midseason invitational meet generally produces a host of team season bests, and often lifetime bests, that stand either throughout the campaign or until the championship season in February and March. While Purdue’s resting and taper is often not the exact same as it is for the Big Ten Championships, the Boilermakers do generally suit up and gear their fall semester training towards this multi-day meet the week before Thanksgiving.
