WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head coach Zack Byrd has announced that Ariana Urrea will join Purdue Women’s Golf as the program’s newest Boilermaker. Making it official on National Signing Day (Nov. 12), the Lima, Peru, native has decided to continue her golf career in West Lafayette.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ari to our Boilermaker family,” said Byrd. “As soon as she stepped on campus, you could see how excited she was for the opportunity to wear the Old Gold and Black. Her work ethic and international tournament experience speak for themselves. The growth she has shown the last three years of her career has us extremely excited for her future here in West Lafayette. Boiler Up!”
Urrea is currently ranked No. 438 in the world according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). In 21 WAGR sanctioned tournaments over the past two years, she won three times and recorded 12 Top 10 finishes. Urrea tied for sixth at the 2024 IMG Academic Junior World Championship, was the medalist at the 2024 Quito Junior Open and ended her year competing in the Latin America Women’s Amateur. In February, the two-time Optimist Junior Golf Championship runner-up (2021, 2025) won a Peru Golf Association title before traveling to Spain and earning a victory at the 2025 Torneo WAGR Scalpers.
Representing her country and competing on the Peruvian National Team since 2021, Urrea led Puru to a victory at the 2025 Junior Pan-American Games as she finished runner-up on the individual leaderboard. She also led teams to victory at the 2024 South American U-18 and the 2022 South American U-15.
As a senior at Windermere Preparatory School in Windermere, Florida, Urrea led the team to a district title as the tournament’s medalist. Her team finished runner-up at regionals before placing third at the state championship. Individually, Urrea cracked the Top 10.
Urrea also shines in the classroom. She has made the headmaster’s list each of the past two years and landed on the high honor roll as a freshman. Urrea is a member of her school’s National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She plans to major in engineering at Purdue.
“I chose Purdue because it offers the perfect balance of elite academics and athletics,” said Urrea. “The university’s strong tradition of excellence, combined with incredible coaching and facilities, creates the ideal environment for me to grow as both a golfer and a student. From my first visit, I felt the genuine support and family atmosphere that makes Purdue so special. I’m proud to call myself a Boilermaker and can’t wait to represent Purdue on and off the course.”
