Boilermakers Win 23 Events in Dual Sweep of Missouri

Wright, Phipps, Mouser, Mattice, Dzirkalis and Broderick all won multiple individual events in the victories.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Headlined by a group of six Boilermakers to win a pair of individual events, Purdue Swimming & Diving was victorious in 23 of the 32 events to sweep a co-ed dual vs. Missouri on Saturday at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

The Purdue women won 12 events to best Missouri in dual meet action for the third season in a row. The Purdue men were victorious in 11 events and are now 2-0-1 vs. the Tigers dating back to January 2024.

Daryn Wright (1-Meter & 3-Meter Diving), Lara Phipps (100 Free, 100 Fly), Kate Mouser (200 Free, 200 IM), Reagan Mattice (500 & 1000 Free), Jānis Dzirkalis (50 & 100 Free) and Pat Broderick (500 & 1000 Free) all won multiple individual events. Dzirkalis, Phipps and Mattice also contributed to a relay winner. Phipps’ leadoff leg split of 49.79 on the 400 freestyle relay moved her up one place (into 12th) on the Boilermakers’ all-time leaderboard in the 100 free.

The women had at least a 1-2 finish in seven events. The men did likewise in six events.

Led by Dzirkalis, Broderick and Mattice, the Boilermakers swept all 12 freestyle events contested Saturday. The women also won both events contested on the springboards and in the butterfly, enjoying three 1-2 finishes in the process. The men also won both events contested in the breaststroke, accounting for at least the top three finishers in both races.

Abby Marcukaitis won the 100 back vs. Missouri for the third consecutive year. Broderick swept the distance freestyle events vs. the Tigers for the second year in a row. Hannah Hill (50) and Phipps (100) also won their freestyle sprints again vs. Mizzou.

Blake Rowe paired his victory in the 200 backstroke with runner-up showings in the 100 back and 200 IM. Mouser was the runner-up behind in the 200 breaststroke to go along with her pair of victories.

Other event winners including: Zach Welsh (3-meter diving), Maxwell Blume (100 breast), Gio Mango (200 breast) and Campbell Scofield (200 fly).

Wright swept the springboard events for the second Saturday in a row.

Alex Hotta and Dzirkalis contributed to both relay winners for the Purdue men.

Caitlin Hurley was the runner-up behind teammates in the 100, 200 and 500 free while also contributing to the Boilermakers’ victory in the 400 free relay.

Purdue is back in action the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 1 for a two-day dual vs. Oakland and Cincinnati in Rochester, Mich. Friday’s action begins at 4 p.m. ET.
