DUAL MEET INFORMATION
Purdue Men & Women host Missouri
Saturday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. ET
Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center / West Lafayette, Indiana
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As Purdue Swimming & Diving continues its annual home-and-home series with Missouri into a fifth consecutive season, Saturday’s meet doubles as the lone co-ed dual of the season at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
Action begins at 11 a.m., with the teams planning to use the default 16-event lineup for the dual. The annual Purdue Half Marathon and 5K is set for Saturday morning and fans should be aware of potential road closures around campus. The races begin at 8 and 8:40 a.m.
The Tigers will be making their third appearance at the Burke Aquatic Center this decade, also paying visits to West Lafayette in November 2021 for a triple dual that also featured Michigan and January 2024 for a meet that also featured the Illinois women. Purdue in turn competed at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia in October 2022 and October 2024. The meet in 2022 was a two-day dual as the Boilermakers’ season opener.
The Purdue women have won the last two duals vs. Missouri and the final scores on the men’s side have been remarkably tight the last two seasons. The Boilermakers were victorious by two points last year in Columbia after the men’s dual in January 2024 ended in a rare 150-150 draw, Purdue’s first tie since 1957.
Both the Purdue men and women won 10 events in Columbia last season, sweeping a co-ed dual on the road for the first time since January 2019 at Michigan State. Adele Sands, Lara Phipps, Charles Lee and Avery Worobel all won events as freshmen to help key the victory. Event sweeps were also significant as Hannah Hill, Lara Phipps and Sands gave the Purdue women winners in the 50 through 500 freestyle. Pat Broderick swept the distance freestyle events on the men’s side while Raymond Whittaker and Charles Lee teamed up for a sweep of the breaststroke events.
Beginning with Lee’s victory in the men’s 200 breast, the Boilermakers won 10 consecutive events to set up the dual sweep in Columbia. After Lee, Sands (500 free), Broderick (500 free), Keira Kask (100 fly), Worobel (1-meter diving) and the women’s 400 free relay team all won events during that stretch.
Caitlin Hurley’s sweep of the distance freestyle events as a freshman in January 2024 was also important in a victory for the Boilermakers. Abby Marcukaitis has won the 100 backstroke vs. Missouri each of the last two years.
The Iowa women (Nov. 7), Southern Illinois men (Jan. 9) and Illinois women (Jan. 10) also visit West Lafayette this season for dual meet action. Purdue is also scheduled to compete in a pair of triple duals on the road – Halloween Weekend vs. Oakland and Cincinnati in Metro Detroit and the final weekend of January vs. Minnesota and Northwestern in Chicagoland. The annual rivalry dual with Indiana is set for Jan. 24 in Bloomington.
