Frezzotti Announces the Addition of Assistant Coach Nicky Dawson

Head softball coach Magali Frezzotti announced the addition of assistant coach, Nicky Dawson, to join the coaching staff for the 2026 season.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head softball coach Magali Frezzotti announced the addition of assistant coach, Nicky Dawson, to join the coaching staff for the 2026 season.

Dawson joins the Boilermakers after serving as the Director of Softball Development for TenCate Sports, the largest manufacturer and constructor of artificial sports surfaces in the world. She served as the lead test athlete of softball specific surfacing products.

Simultaneously, she also served as the lead Marucci Sports Softball Consultant to CEO, Kurt Ainsworth. She utilized her expertise in softball to test, develop, and introduce new technologies for Marucci’s softball division.

Nicky is a winner. She is a passionate and confident coach who complements our staff perfectly. I am looking forward to seeing the impact she has on our program, and especially how she elevates our infield and slappers.

Prior to her time there, Dawson was the strength and conditioning trainer at Traction Center for Sports Excellence in Baton Rouge, where she focused on the implementation of strength and power programs for athletes preparing for the professional (NFL Combine), Olympic, and collegiate careers.

The Baton Rouge, La. Native, Dawson began her collegiate career at home for Louisiana State University, before transferring to play four years at Baylor University.

While at Baylor, Dawson earned All-Big 12 honors at second base, and was named to the Baylor All-Decade Team. An Academic All-Big 12 First-Team Honoree, Dawson was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Baylor Dean’s list. Dawson graduated with a career .353 batting average a .444 on-base percentage and is still the all-time triples leader for the Bears. In 2017, she was a WCWS participant with the LSU Tigers.

In high school Dawson attended Parkview Baptist high school, where she had a stellar career. In 2016, Dawson was named the Max preps National Player of the year, while setting the NFHS National record for career triples with 49. Dawson was also a consensus First-Team All American earning the prestigious NFCA Golden Shoe Award.

Dawson holds the record in Louisiana for hits, total bases, runs scored, steals, and triples.
