4 Boilermakers Named WGCA All-American Scholars

by Adam Kuffner

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Four Purdue golfers were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Samantha Brown, Jocelyn Bruch, Momo Sugiyama and Lauren Timpf earned the recognition for their performances on the course and in the classroom throughout the academic year.

The four WGCA All-American Scholars are the most by Purdue in a single season in school history.

To be selected to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and play in 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year through the team's conference championship.

Sugiyama became just the sixth three-time WGCA All-American Scholar in program history, joining Heather Zielinski (2001-03), Maria Hernandez (2006-08), Thea Hoffmeister (2009-11), August Kim (2014-17) and Ashley Kozlowski (2022-24). Bruch earned the honor in her final season as a Boilermaker, while Brown and Timpf collected the accolade as freshmen.

Brown was one of three Boilermakers to crack the lineup in every tournament. She led Purdue with four eagles on the season, which included a pair of hole-in-ones, while ranking second on the team in pars (428). She produced a 75.76 stroke average, carding a career-low 69 (-3) in the second round of the Big Ten Championships. Brown’s best performance was leading Purdue at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, tying for 16th on the individual leaderboard.

Bruch wrapped up a career that featured her cracking the lineup in all 44 tournament appearances for the Old Gold and Black, totaling 121 rounds. She played in three NCAA Championships over her career and was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Her career-low 209 at the 2023 Schooner Fall Classic was the 10th-best three-round total in school history. As a senior, Bruch played in 11 tournaments and recorded a 75.53 stroke average.

Sugiyama finished her career ranked second in program history in career stroke average (73.09), second in rounds in the 60s (12) and fifth in even-or-under par rounds (46). The two-time All-Big Ten honoree led the team in stroke average all three years as a Boilermaker, cracking the lineup for all 39 tournaments over the past three seasons. As a senior, Sugiyama paced Purdue in six different tournaments throughout the season, a team best, including the three postseason tournaments (Big Ten Championships, NCAA Lubbock Regional, NCAA Championships). Along with being a three-time WGCA All-American Scholar, she also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times.

In her first season of college golf, Timpf made an immediate impact for Purdue by competing in 12 tournaments, including earning a spot in the lineup for all three postseason events. The Macomb, Michigan, native played her best golf of the season at the NCAA Lubbock Regional. Her 14th-place finish, 54-hole total (73-76-70—219) and final round 70 (-2) were all career bests, and she ranked fourth in the field in par-5 scoring (-5) throughout the week to help the Boilermakers advance to the NCAA Championships.
