WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – All-Americans and Academic All-Big Ten honorees Sophie McAfee and Cameron Miller have been selected as Purdue Athletics' recipients of the Big Ten Medal of Honor for the 2024-25 school year, recognizing their dual proficiency in scholarship and athletics.
As standouts in diving and track, McAfee and Miller have represented the Boilermakers with distinction as four-time NCAA Championships qualifiers. McAfee graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in economics. Miller is pursuing a master's degree in communications at Purdue.
Miller was a bronze medalist at the indoor NCAA Championships and four-time Big Ten champion. McAfee demonstrated her versatility as a top-eight All-American on the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in both events all four years.
McAfee and Miller represent the Boilermakers in the 111th class of recipients of the Big Ten's most prestigious award. Established during the 1914-15 school year, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete closing out their collegiate careers from each Big Ten institution. The 36 Medal of Honor recipients from around the conference represent an all-sports honor roll of the best and brightest in the league. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics.
McAfee joins a long list of divers who have dominated the award for the Boilermakers in recent years. The diving program has claimed nine honors total, including eight since 2014 and five since 2021 – substantially the most at Purdue during both spans.
Miller is the first Boilermaker from track & field to be a Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient since Janae' Moffitt and Jared Carpenter were recognized in 2020. Carpenter also competed for cross country. Decathlon All-American Jon Pergande (1995) was Purdue's last male Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient to compete for exclusively for track & field.

Miller was a three-time All-American in 2025 to headline his second dominant season as a Boilermaker. A bronze medal finish at the indoor championships, the highest finish of his career, highlighted his NCAA Championship performances. He also swept the Big Ten indoor and outdoor 200m titles and added another title as the second leg of the indoor 4x400m relay team.
Miller's 2025 season featured five school records in both the indoor and outdoor 200m and 4x400m as well as the indoor 300m. His indoor 200m (20.27) and 300m (32.43) set Big Ten records. His 300m time currently stands as the eighth-fastest in NCAA history.
One of the most decorated athletes in Purdue history, Miller concluded his Boilermaker career as a five-time All-American, four-time Big Ten Champion and 2025 Great Lakes Regional Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in only two seasons.
McAfee was a six-time All-American, scoring on 3-meter and platform at the NCAA Championships for three consecutive seasons. As a junior in 2024, she was one of only two females at NCAAs to be a championship finalist on 3-meter and platform – becoming just Purdue's fourth female to accomplish the feat in the same season. She repeated as a full-fledged All-American on the tower as a senior.
McAfee eclipsed team records on 3-meter and the platform at the 2024 Purdue Invitational, taking possession of a 3-meter mark that had previously stood since 2013. She's second in program history on platform.
McAfee scored in all three diving events at the Big Ten Championships all four seasons, recording 11 career top-10 finishes and qualifying for six championship finals. She accounted for 252 team points at Big Tens during her career, good for second most by any female Boilermaker during the current scoring format.
McAfee was also a high-level academic achiever, graduating with a 3.83 GPA. She's already a three-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time Academic All-District honoree. Later this summer, she'll officially be a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American and three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
