WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team was recognized for their outstanding season when the Big Ten Conference announced today that Sam Easterbrook and Kent Hsiao have both been named to the Big Ten All-Conference teams, in voting done by the league coaches.
Easterbrook, a sophomore from Tomworth, England, was voted a unanimous selection to the first team, while Hsiao, a senior from Taipei, Taiwan, was named to the second team.
It marks the fourth straight year that Purdue has had a first-team honoree after Herman Sekne was voted to the first team three times in 2022, 2023 and 2024. It marks the longest yearly streak of having a first-team honoree since having a first-team selection in five straight years from 1983 to 1987.
It marks the first career Big Ten honor for both golfers.
Easterbrook has inserted himself into the Purdue record books with a strong sophomore season. He leads the team with 70.85 stroke average which ranks fourth in school history behind All-Americans Herman Sekne (2023, 2024) and Lee Williamson (2002).
He won the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic in early February and owns four top-5 and six top-10 placings, tied for the fifth most in a season in Purdue history. His nine top-20 showings (in 11 events) are second in school history.
Easterbrook has posted 11 rounds in the 60s, which is second in school history, with 19 rounds (of 33 played) of even-par or better, also fourth in school history.
He has been even better in the spring season, posting a 69.60 stroke average with 11 of his 15 rounds being even- or under-par and no round lower than a 73. Thirty-one of his 33 rounds this season have been at 75 or lower with his lowest score of the year being a 77. Eight of his 15 rounds in the spring have been in the 60s.
Hsiao, meanwhile, has posted a 71.79 stroke average with three top-10 finishes and four top-20 showings in just eight events this year. He has 11 rounds of par or better with seven rounds in the 60s. He finished second behind Easterbrook at the Puerto Rico Classic and currently ranks third on the career stroke average list at 72.78 strokes per round.
Hsiao has also been outstanding in the spring season, owning a 70.08 average after a 73.50 average in the fall. He has placed no worse than 22nd in his four events this spring, including a T-7 showing at the Calusa Cup and T-15 at the Big Ten Championships.
