WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men's tennis team (7-1) is set to conclude its four-match homestand and non-conference action against Butler (6-5) on Saturday. The match is set for a 3 p.m. ET start with free pizza and admission for all fans.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
- Coming in at No. 44 in this week's team ITA rankings, this marks the program's highest ranking since 2016.
- The Boilermakers extended their home win streak to 7-0 this season, and marked the program's most dominant victory over a top-32 team in 11 years with a win against Boise State on Feb. 21.
- The program also earned its first Big Ten Weekly Award recipient of the season in Henrik Villanger.
- In six of Purdue's seven wins this season, the Boilermakers have either shut out or allowed their opponent to score just one team point.
- Villanger was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 26, the first honor of his career and just the 10th Boilermaker to receive the accolade.
- The sophomore remains undefeated in doubles with his partner Maj Premzl with a 4-0 record and improved to a 7-1 singles record this spring, including 4-0 at the No. 3 position.
- The freshman continues his strong first year campaign, going 6-1 in singles over seven finished matches. He has been dominate in those six wins, with five of them being won in just two sets.
- Since pairing up with Daniel Labrador at No. 2 doubles, the pair have won 6-0, 6-3 in their first two matches together. Fathalla is 4-1 in the season in doubles.
- Purdue maintains a strong all-time series lead over the Bulldogs with an overall record of 42-2.
- In a doubleheader on Feb. 21, the Bulldogs split the matches beating Purdue Northwest by a score of 4-2 and losing to Western Michigan 6-1.
