COLUMBUS, Ohio Avery Worobel won silver in 3-meter diving while eclipsing the program's freshman record in the event for the second time this season, headlining Friday at the Big Ten Championships for Purdue Women's Swimming & Diving.

The Boilermakers accounted for three of the championship finalists and podium finishers in a springboard diving event for the second night in a row. Daryn Wright placed fourth and Sophie McAfee seventh as Purdue was the only team with three in the championship final again.

Worobel became the Boilers' first female diver to medal at Big Tens since Maycey Vieta won silver on platform in 2020. Casey Matthews (bronze on 1-meter) was the last freshman to accomplish the feat in a springboard event. Worobel improved on her list score by 24.3 points in the final, setting the freshman standard at 361.20 while improving on her 12th-best score in team history overall.

Wright improved to 8-for-8 in career top-10 finishes at Big Tens and, similar to Worobel, finished top five in both springboard events this week. McAfee posted her 10th career top-10 finish at Big Tens on Friday. They'll be among the favorites in Saturday's platform diving event.

Kathryn Ackerman and Masy Folcik both scored at the Big Ten Championships for the fifth consecutive seasons. Ackerman was a B finalist in the 400 individual medley, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut) of 4:11.37 on her second swim to again best the program record entering the season. The grad transfer broke the record with a time of 4:10.61 at the Purdue Invitational in November.

Folcik joined Mahala Erlandson in the C final of the 100 breaststroke. Erlandson improved on her 12th-best time in team history with a lifetime best of 1:01.62.

Kate Mouser moved up to third place in team history in the 400 IM (4:12.97, B Cut) while scoring in the C final. She'll be in the 200 butterfly Saturday with an opportunity to become just the second Boilermaker to score in all three of her individual events in each of her underclassman seasons since the current top-24 scoring format was introduced in 2016.

Abby Marckuaitis won a C final at Big Tens for the second year in a row, taking the 100 backstroke this year after touching first in the 200 last season at home.

Adele Sands scored in the C final of the 200 freestyle, giving the freshman an opportunity to score in all three of her individual events this week when she competes in the mile Saturday. She'd follow in Mouser's footsteps and become just Purdue's third freshman swimmer since 2016 to accomplish the feat.

Reagan Mattice posted a career-best time (1:48.57 in the 200 free) for the second day in a row Friday and was honored as Purdue's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree.

The Big Ten Championships conclude Saturday with swimming prelims at 10 a.m., diving prelims at noon and the finals session at 5 p.m.
