ROSEMONT, Ill. – Daryn Wright's victories on 3-meter Friday at home and 1-meter Saturday in Champaign as part of Purdue Women's Swimming & Diving's 3-0 weekend earned the Olympian her third Big Ten Diver of the Week honor of the season.
Wright's career-best list score of 373.43 on 3-meter Friday moved her into seventh place in program history. She now ranks first (platform), second (1-meter) and seventh (3-meter) in the Purdue record book.
Wright joins Jordan Rzepka as Boilermakers to be named Big Ten Diver of the Week three times this season. Her sixth career Big Ten weekly honor moved her into a tie for second place in team history with Emily Bretscher (2018-22). Carrie McCambridge was an eight-time honoree from 2003-06.
Bretscher was Purdue's last female diver to win Big Ten Diver of the Week three times in a season, accomplishing the feat in 2019-20 (four times) – the same year Bretscher won Big Ten Diver of the Year and Big Ten Diver of the Championships. Mary Beth Dunnichay (2014-15), Casey Matthews (2013-14), Ashley Karnes (2007-08), Amanda Miller (4x, 2006-07) and McCambridge (2004-05 and 2005-06) were also three-time honorees in a season for the Purdue women.
Wright has been recognized by the league office after each of the last three times she has competed dating back to the weekend of Nov. 21-23 at the Purdue Invitational. She's also the first women's diver in the league this season to be recognized three times. Three others are two-time honorees.
The Boilermakers swept Friday's triple dual vs. Kentucky and Notre Dame and then won Saturday's meet at Illinois, improving to 5-0 in duals this season and 13-2 dating back to the start of the 2023-24 campaign. Purdue swept the springboard diving events in both meets over the weekend. Wright finished second to teammate Avery Worobel Friday on 1-meter as the Boilermakers had the top four finishers. They also had the top three finishers Friday on 3-meter and Saturday on 1-meter. Sophie McAfee won Saturday on 3-meter in an event in which Wright did not compete.
Wright's seven event victories are tops among Purdue women's divers and second on the full team overall.
When the Boilermakers host rival Indiana next weekend, the divers will compete Friday at 5:30 p.m. on platform (Wright's Olympic event) and Saturday at 10 a.m. on 1-meter. The full co-ed dual will be contested Saturday morning.
