WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 25 Purdue wrestling team will close its non-conference slate with a road trip to DeKalb, Illinois, facing the Northern Illinois Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
The matinee matchup is set for 3 p.m. ET at NIU Convocation Center. Fans at home can watch every match live on ESPN+.
The dual will serve as the 35th all-time meeting between Purdue and Northern Illinois. The Boilermakers (7-1, 1-0 B1G) hold a 25-8-1 advantage over the Huskies (2-1, 2-0 MAC), including a current win streak of 11.
Purdue has also won 23 of the last 24 meetings dating back to 1986.
The last five contests all took place at home in West Lafayette. It will be the Boilers' first venture to DeKalb since Nov. 17, 2012, when Purdue blanked the Huskies 37-0.
The most recent matchup on Nov. 19, 2023, was more competitive, when the Old Gold & Black prevailed 22-13 in the Boilermaker Duals at Holloway Gymnasium.
Probable starters again for this year's matchup, Dustin Norris, Stoney Buell, Orlando Cruz and Ben Vanadia were all victorious in last season's NIU dual. LAST TIME OUT The Boilermakers are in for a quick turnaround from Friday night's Big Ten Conference opener, but the team is coming in hot after handily defeating Northwestern 31-13.
Led by star redshirt-senior Matt Ramos (No. 1, 125 lbs), the Boilermakers earned five bonus point wins in their home-opening bout against the talented Wildcats.
Ramos added another technical fall to his nation-leading tally (11), winning 20-4 with his highest point total of the season.
No. 33 Greyson Clark shined in perhaps the best match of his young career when he beat No. 10 Chris Cannon 13-9, picking up his first career top-10 victory.
No. 7 Joey Blaze returned to the lineup for the first time since placing sixth at the CKLV Invite in December, winning an 11-3 major decision.
Hayden Filipovich put forth arguably the most dominant performance of the night, pinning Dirk Morley in just 2:29 for the only fall of the contest.
No. 26 Brody Baumann continued his offensive hot streak with a 17-2 tech fall. Orlando Cruz matched his career high of 19 points with a 19-4 tech fall over Matt Kubas.
Additionally, Dustin Norris picked up a convincing conference win over Massey Odiotti in a 13-7 decision. PROJECTED LINEUPS Purdue
