Trips to Florida and Illinois Continue Outdoor Campaign

GAINESVILLE, Fla., and CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A weekend in Florida and Illinois is up next for the Purdue track & field team, as the Boilermakers are set to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, from April 12-13 and at the Gary Wieneke Memorial in Champaign, Illinois, on April 13.

GAINESVILLE, Fla., and CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A weekend in Florida and Illinois is up next for the Purdue track & field team, as the Boilermakers are set to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, from April 12-13 and at the Gary Wieneke Memorial in Champaign, Illinois, on April 13.
 
Purdue's sprinters, distance runners and throwers made the trip to the Sunshine State, and the Boilermakers' jumpers and select sprinters and distance runners will travel to the Land of Lincoln.
 
Fans unable to cheer the Boilermakers on in person can follow along with live results (Florida | Illinois) and the meet schedules (Florida | Illinois). Both meets also will feature a live stream of the action (Florida Day 1 | Florida Day 2 | Illinois). Florida's two-day meet at James G. Pressly Stadium and Percy Beard Track begins for the Boilermakers with running events at 12 p.m. ET and field events at 2 p.m. Purdue's final event, the 1,500-meters, will finish at approximately 8:40 p.m. On Saturday, April 13, field events begin the day at 9 a.m., followed by the squad's first running event at 10:15 a.m. The 100m will end the meet for the Old Gold and Black at 5:30 p.m.
 
The one-day meet at Illinois' Demirjian Park on Saturday gets underway with field events at 12 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. CT. Running events commence one hour later. The meet is expected to conclude at 5:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. CT.
 
PURDUE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Boilermakers are represented four times in the top-25 in the third weekly national TFRI individual rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Freshman Andreas Hantson checks in at No. 17 in the decathlon and sophomore Bryanna Craig is No. 19 in the heptathlon. Sophomore Seth Allen, in the discus, and the men's 4x400 relay are both ranked 21st. Hantson, Allen and the relay team all earned their national rankings with top-10 marks in school history.
 
LAST YEAR IN FLORIDA AND ILLINOIS
Last year at Florida's Tom Jones Memorial from April 14-15, Cierra Williams moved up in the record books to highlight Purdue's weekend. She earned one of 22 personal-best marks by the Boilermakers at two meets that weekend, and another 10 season-bests were recorded. The previous weekend, on April 8, Purdue was at Illinois' Fighting Illini Challenge.  A pair of top-10 times and two victories propelled Purdue, as Alex Frey and Nathan Walker etched their name in the Boilermaker record book in the 1,500-meter with the ninth- and 10th-fastest times in school history.

LAST TIME OUT: TWO TOP-10 DECATHLON MARKS
Freshman Andreas Hantson and senior Logan Sandlin both entered the record books in the decathlon at the Jim Click Shootout from April 5-6 in Tucson, Arizona. Sandlin's personal-best point total came with seven PRs in the 10 events. Hantson notched four collegiate bests, and the other six events he was competing in for the first time outdoors as a college athlete.
 
Hantson earned 7,212 points to become just the fourth athlete in program history to eclipse 7,000 points in the decathlon. He's the second to do it since 1998, along with Isaiah Martin, who set the record of 7,708 in 2021. Sandlin earned 6,820 points to enter the top-10 list at No. 6. That's the third-best total since 1998, along with Martin and Hantson.

NEXT UP: ON TO THE BLUEGRASS STATE
The Boilermakers are back together again next weekend, as they travel to Lexington, Kentucky, for the Jim Green Invitational. The two-day meet, from April 19-20, will give Purdue an early look at this year's host track for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in late May.
