Edey Nabs League-Record 10th Big Ten Player of the Week Honor

Zach Edey has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, and for the 10th time in his career.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's Zach Edey has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, and for the 10th time in his career, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The accolade gives him 10 Big Ten Player of the Week honors in his career, tying Ohio State's Evan Turner for the most in league history. Edey has earned the 10 weekly honors in the last 28 weeks dating to the fourth week of last season.

Edey led the No. 2-ranked Boilermakers to a pair of victories over teams that were in the top four of the league standings with victories over Northwestern (105-96) and No. 6-ranked Wisconsin (75-69). He averaged 24.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks while shooting 18-of-27 (.667) from the field. Fourteen of his 28 rebounds came on the offensive end.

Edey tallied 30 points, 15 rebounds and three assists in the win over Northwestern, his sixth career 30-15 game, the most for a high-major player in the last 15 years (Marvin Bagley III, Blake Griffin – 4). He set a school record in the win over Wildcats, by scoring in double-figures in his 73rd straight game.

He then tallied 18 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the win over Wisconsin, setting a school record for most career double-doubles with 55.

Edey surpassed 200 career blocks in the win over Badgers, making him the third player in NCAA history with 2,000 career points, 1,000 career rebounds, 200 career blocks and to shoot at least 60.0 percent from the field, joining Navy's David Robinson and Georgetown's Patrick Ewing on that exclusive list.

Edey currently ranks third nationally in scoring (23.1 PPG), fourth in rebounds (11.7 RPG), 14th in field goal percentage (.631) and 14th in blocked shots per game (2.3 BPG). Just three players in NCAA history (2002-03 – Chris Kaman, Central Michigan; 1997-98 – Michael Olowokandi, Pacific; 1993-94 – Carlos Rogers, Tennessee State) have ever finished in the top 15 in all four categories.

Edey and the Boilermakers host Indiana on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET, in Mackey Arena.
