THE NOTES TO KNOW
• The Purdue men's basketball continues a season-long, four-game homestand under the Friday Night Lights of Mackey Arena when Horizon League power Northern Kentucky visits Mackey Arena for the first time in 11 years. The Boilermakers are coming off a 17-point victory over TAMUCC in the opener, while the Norse dropped a 12-point decision at Florida State.
• The Boilermakers are looking to start 2-0 for the fourth straight season. The last time Purdue didn't start 2-0 was in 2020-21 with a win over Liberty and a loss to Clemson in the Space Coast Challenge, starting that season 1-1.
• Purdue has won 27 straight non-conference games in Mackey Arena, its last setback coming Nov. 9, 2019 vs. Texas. The streak is tied for the longest in Mackey Arena history and with a win over the Norse, will set the school record with its 28th straight, non-conference home win.
• Purdue has won 23 straight games in the month of November, the last loss coming Nov. 26, 2020, against Clemson in the Space Coast Challenge, good for the second-longest streak nationally. Purdue is 94-23 (.803) under Matt Painter during the month of November.
• The Boilermakers haven't lost a non-conference regular-season game since Dec. 8, 2020, at Miami, Florida -- a span of 1,432 days and 36 games. The 36-game streak is the sixth-longest streak over the last 60 years and a win over the Norse will give Purdue its 37th straight regular-season, non-conference victory -- good for the fifth-longest streak in NCAA history.
• Purdue has won 18 straight home games, the seventh-longest home winning streak in school history. A win over Northern Kentucky will be No. 19, which would tie for the fourth-longest streak in Mackey Arena history. Purdue is 47-3 at home since the start of the 2021-22 season.
• The Boilermakers' 18-game home winning streak is the sixth-longest streak nationally (Houston, Drake, UConn, Samford, Iowa State).
• Since the 2015-16 season, Purdue is now 57-2 (.966) against non-conference opposition. The lone losses came to defending National Champion Villanova (Nov. 2016) and Texas (Nov. 2019). Purdue is 113-6 (.950) in Mackey Arena vs. unranked teams since the 2015-16 season.
• The Boilermakers open the 2024-25 campaign ranked No. 14 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll released Oct. 14.
• Purdue has been ranked in 39 straight AP Top 25 polls, the sixth-longest active streak in the country and the third longest in school history.
• Purdue is looking to become the first team to win three straight outright Big Ten titles since the Boilermakers did it in 1994-96. Ohio State also accomplished the feat in 1960-62 as the only programs to record an outright "threepeat".
• Purdue's 111 wins over the last four seasons are the third-most nationally behind Houston (126) and Gonzaga (118). The Boilermakers' 111 wins during that span are the most for a four-year span in Purdue history. The record for most wins in a five-year stretch is 130 (2015-19).
• Purdue, Duke, Gonzaga and Houston are the only programs in America to have made at least a Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final Four in the last five NCAA Tournaments. Purdue reached the Sweet 16 in 2022, the Elite 8 in 2019 and the Final Four in 2024.
• Matt Painter ranks fourth on the Big Ten's list for career wins with 448, trailing only Tom Izzo (708), Bob Knight (662) and Gene Keady (512) in Big Ten history. On the Big Ten games-only chart, Painter is fifth (226 wins), needing two wins to tie Hall of Famer, Ward "Piggy" Lambert of Purdue with 228 victories.
• Braden Smith dished out 15 assists in the win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the most assists in Big Ten history in a season opener. It marked his third career 15-assist game, also the most in league history. Smith had a hand in 47 of Purdue's 90 points in the opener.
• The trio of Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer and Trey Kaufman-Renn combined for 48 points, 18 rebounds and 20 assists in the opener.
