SERIES HISTORY VS. THE CRIMSON TIDE
Thursday will be the first time Purdue and Alabama have faced each other. Against current Southeastern Conference opposition, the Boilermakers are 7-10-3 all-time and 2-5-2 in West Lafayette. The most recent games against an SEC team came in 2022 in back-to-back contests. Purdue suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Vanderbilt on August 21 before a 2-1 defeat at Kentucky on August 25.
Facing a top-25 SEC team, the Boilermakers are 4-3-2 after a 1-1, double-overtime draw at Vanderbilt in 2021. No. 7 South Carolina was the last ranked SEC squad to come to West Lafayette, in 2019.
LAST TIME OUT: FLYING PAST DAYTON
Singarella's hat trick propelled Purdue to a 6-1 victory over Dayton on September 1. The Boilermakers scored early and often, with goals in the second, eighth and 13th minutes. The Flyers tried to get back in the game with a 22nd-minute goal, but the home side answered right back with another score in the 25th minute. Tallies in the 48th and 65th minutes sealed the win.
The six goals scored in a game are tied for the sixth-most in team history, and the four goals in the first half are tied for seventh-most all-time in a half. It's just the second time either feat has been achieved – six or more goals in a game and four or more goals in a half – since 2017. Meanwhile, Dayton's six goals allowed were two more than the team had given up all season entering the contest.
Roy scored Purdue's first goal, her third in as many games, and Dunaway netted the second goal, her second in two games. Singarella got the next three before sophomore forward Lauren Omholt scored the team's last goal to open up her 2024 account. Fifth-year midfielder Zoie Allen, Budish and sophomore defenders Lauren Adam and Zoe Cuneio picked up assists.
Purdue registered 12 shots, seven on target, and Dayton had eight shots, three on frame. The Flyers earned five corner kicks and the Boilermakers had three.
