TUCSON, Ariz. – Four combined event athletes for the Purdue track & field team opened competition at the Jim Click Shootout on Friday in Tucson, Arizona.

In a total of 18 individual events competed in on Friday, the Boilermakers combined to earn 13 personal best marks. Of the five marks that were not PRs, three were because it was the first time they had competed in that event outdoors in their collegiate career.

Making his collegiate decathlon debut, freshman Andreas Hantson is in seventh place in the decathlon with 3,867 points after five events. He boasts a PR in all conditions in the long jump, with a mark of 7.07 meters on his third attempt, and a collegiate best of 49.98 in the 400 meters. Hantson ran the 100m (11.15w) and competed in the shot put (12.49) and high jump (1.95m) for the first time outdoors. His best finish on day one was a third place in the high jump.

Sophomore Bryanna Craig is in ninth place in the heptathlon with 3,241 points through four events. She posted a PR in all conditions of 13.99w in the 100m hurdles to begin the day and added another PR in the shot put (10.91m) and 200m (24.59w), in all conditions. Craig also earned a high jump mark clearance of 1.61m. She was eighth in both running events to lead her day.

Junior Jalen Elrod is in the 12th place in the heptathlon with 3,120 points thanks to collegiate bests in all four events. Her 100m hurdles (14.56w) and 200m (24.26w) times both are PRs in all conditions. Those started and ended her day, around bests in the high jump (1.55m) and shot put (10.84m). Elrod's top finish was fourth in the 200m to conclude the opening day.

Senior Logan Sandlin is in 15th place after five events in the decathlon with 3,492 points. He notched four PRs on Friday, beginning with the 100m (11.19) and long jump (6.60m), both personal bests in all conditions. Another PR of 11.65m in the shot put followed before a high jump clearance of 1.71m. Sandlin's day wrapped up with another best time in the 400m (49.96), as he finished seventh to earn his best placing of the day.

The two-day meet at Arizona's Drachman Stadium concludes on Saturday, April 6. The final five events of the decathlon start at 12:30 a.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. PT, with the last three events of the heptathlon starting 30 minutes afterwards. Purdue's day is expected to wrap up at about 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
