WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue men's tennis begins its run in the Big Ten Tournament against No. 9-seed Penn State this Thursday, April 25 at noon.

Purdue has seen Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament seven times since 1992. The Boilers are 2-5 in those matchups with wins in 1997 and 2001. Overall the Boilers are 17-22 against the Nittany Lions following a 6-1 dual victory in West Lafayette earlier this season.

In that five-point victory, singles No. 2-5 all picked up wins. Soham Purohit, Henrik Villanger, Juan David Velasquez and Daniel Labrador all won in straight sets. Since the start of Big Ten play, Purdue has won nine singles matches in straight sets. Villanger owns the most straight-set victories against conference foes with three.

The Boilermakers have defeated its first tournament opponent 13 times with eight wins since 2000. The most recent was a 4-3 victory over Northwestern in 2019.

SCOUTING #9 PENN STATE:
Penn State comes into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 9 seed. The Nittany Lions wrapped the season's final weekend with a win over Wisconsin on Friday, April 19, which snapped a 15-match losing streak.

No. 83 Miko Eala is 6-1 in conference play with a 2-1 record against nationally ranked foes. He is 10-4 in dual matches this spring. Eala has played the entire season in the top two positions with a 9-4 record at No. 1.
