The No. 26-ranked Purdue men's golf team put together a solid round and moved up two spots to finish third at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.

COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 26-ranked Purdue men's golf team put together a solid round and moved up two spots to finish third at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, held at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course.
 
The Boilermakers shot a 2-over par 286 to finish third with a 54-hole total of 24-over par 876 (289-301-286). Indiana rallied for the team title at 19-over par 871, while host Ohio State was second at 22-over par 874. Kent State was fourth at 26-over par 878, while South Dakota State rounded out the top five at 30-over par 882.
 
The finish was Purdue's sixth top-3 placing of the season, coming in just nine events. The Boilermakers were playing this week without All-American Herman Sekne, who was competing on a sponsor's exemption at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.
 
The Boilermakers led the field in par-3 scoring (+7) and was second in par-5 scoring (-12), and managed 33 birdies and 166 pars this week (3rd in the field).
 
Purdue played the back nine first, making the turn in 3-over par, before playing the front nine in 1-under par to make a move into third place. Purdue's five players played the last seven holes in a combined 5-under par.
 
Leading Purdue for the second straight week was freshman Sam Easterbrook, with his second straight top-5 finish after shooting 4-over par 217 (70-78-69). His final-round 69 tied for the fourth-lowest round of the week and he was one of just two players with a pair of under-par rounds this week (South Dakota State's Tyler Seeling).
 
Easterbrook now owns a 72.54 stroke average this season – the lowest average for a freshman in school history.
 
Junior Nels Surtani also pieced together a strong tournament, finished tied for 12th at 6-over par 219 (74-73-72). Surtani bogeyed his first two holes of the day, but played the final 16 holes in 1-under par for his fifth top-20 finish of the season.
 
Peyton Snoeberger became the third Boilermaker in the top 20, totaling a 7-over par 220 (73-76-71), good for T-18th place. Snoeberger was 2-over par through 14 holes, but birdied two of his last four holes for his even-par 71.
 
Kent Hsaio narrowly missed a top-20 finish with a T-21 showing at 8-over par 221 (72-75-74), while Nick Dentino finished tied for 64th at 14-over par 227 (76-77-74). Playing as an individual, Justin Sun finished tied for 94th at 20-over par 233 (78-80-75).
 
Purdue will return to Columbus and Scioto Country Club for the Big Ten Championships, starting Friday morning.
